Overview

Foundation Against Violation of Law (FAVL) is a non-governmental non-profit organization working in the human rights area. It was founded in 1991 and registered by the Ministry of Justice in April 1992.

The mission of FAVL is assistance to spreading and implementation of international humanitarian law, human rights and fundamental freedoms, social-economic and civic development of remote communities, establishment of democratic traditions in Armenia.

The main beneficiaries of FAVL are people suffered from military operations (hostages, war prisoners, missing people and their families, refugees, forced displaced persons), victims of torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, without difference of race, nation, religion and political views, as well as ethnic minorities/other unions, groups, communities, especially suffered from the infringement of their civil and political, social, economic and cultural rights.

Paris-Geneva-Yerevan, June 12, 2009. The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH), along with the Civil Society Institute, the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office, the Helsinki Committee of Armenia, the Collaboration for Democracy Centre, Transparency International the Anti-Corruption Centre and the Foundation Against Violation of Law, express their deep concern about the ill-treatments against human rights defender Arshaluys Hakobyan while arbitrarily detained since June 5, 2009. more

ASSAULT ON THE OFFICE OF THE «FOUNDATION AGAINST VIOLATION OF LAW» NGO

During the night from 27-28 April, 2009 the office of the «Foundation Against Violation of Law» NGO located in Yerevan, 6 Arshakunyats avenue has been subjected to assault by unknown individuals. According to the witnesses the assault has taken place around 1 am.

In the morning, instead of the beneficiarfies having legal problems, the staff of the NGO have greeted the brocken glasses of the doors and the big rock, which was used as weapon of the crime. The police officers are taking corresponding measures to reveal the identity of the criminals and the details of the incident.

Such incidents confirm, that the non-governmental organizations providing legal assistance to the citizens, as well as fighting against arbitrariness are always targets for those commiting illegal actions.
